From the download to your timeline on your phone, in four steps.
Install Tethery
Tethery installs on the computer you edit on: a Mac with macOS 14 or later, or a PC with Windows 10 or later, with Premiere Pro or After Effects 2025 or later. One installer covers both apps.
- Download the installer
From tethery.app/download. The newest is version 0.1.5.
- Quit Premiere Pro and After Effects
The installer can’t add the plug-in while either is open. It offers to quit them for you, and each asks before closing anything unsaved.
- Open the installer and follow its steps
It adds three things: the plug-in that takes the picture from Premiere Pro or After Effects, the Tethery panel, and Tethery Helper, which streams to your phone.
- Have a license key?
Paste it on the installer’s last screen, or later in the panel. See Activate a license.
Turn on Tethery in your app
Once per app: tell Premiere Pro or After Effects to send its picture to Tethery.
- Open Playback settings
On a Mac, Premiere Pro›Settings›Playback. On Windows, Edit›Preferences›Playback.
On a Mac: Premiere Pro › Settings › Playback. On Windows: Edit › Preferences › Playback. - Check Enable Mercury Transmit
- Check Tethery
Under Transmit Device Playback, check Video Stream and Audio Stream on the Tethery row. Leave Video Offset at 0.

On a Mac: After Effects › Settings › Video. On Windows: Edit › Preferences › Video. - Check Enable Mercury Transmit
- Check Video Stream on the Tethery row
Leave the other rows as they are. After Effects sends Tethery no sound, so the phone shows the picture only.

Tethery isn’t in the list? Quit the app and open it again.
The picture stops when the app isn’t in front? Uncheck Disable video output when in the background, in the same place. Most of the time the picture keeps going with it checked.
Using both apps? Turn Tethery on in each. Each runs its own session.
Start your first session
- Open the panel
Choose Window›Extensions›Tethery.
Window › Extensions, then Tethery. The panel docks like any other. - Press Start session
Under Connection, the panel shows how the phone will reach this computer. Same Wi‑Fi is the default; the others are in Connections.

A QR code appears in the panel, with a four-character code over it. Point the phone’s camera at the QR code and open the link it offers. No camera handy? Open connect.tethery.app on the phone and type the code. In Tethery on your Home Screen, Scan the QR code under Connect scans it without leaving the app. On the free version, open the address the panel shows instead.

Play the sequence, and the picture appears on the phone. Tethery sends what the Program Monitor shows, so a stopped playhead holds the last frame.
The first session asks whether Tethery Helper may accept incoming network connections. Choose Allow, or the phone can’t reach your computer. Chose Don’t Allow? See The firewall said no.
Every session has a new code, so a link saved from an old one won’t open the next: type the new code instead. To finish, press End session, and every phone watching shows This session has ended.
Put Tethery on your Home Screen
Add the viewer to the phone’s Home Screen and it opens like an app, straight to the code screen. On iPhone and iPad it’s also what makes session notifications possible.
- Open connect.tethery.app in Safari
Or scan the QR on tethery.app/download, which opens these same steps on the phone.
- Tap Share
At the bottom of Safari. On newer iPhones it’s under ⋯.
